Rental Information

In General

A rental day consists of each consecutive 24-hour period beginning after the start time of the rental (regardless of time zones and daylight-saving times effects).

A reservation can be made for up to 365 days. Reservations of over 28 days will be processed in 28-day increments until the entire length of the reservation is fulfilled. The first rental agreement will be provided to the renter at pick-up. Subsequent rental agreements will be created remotely.  The renter must review, electronically sign, and provide the vehicle’s current mileage for each subsequent rental agreement.

To extend an active rental, please contact Car On The Drive at contact@caronthedrive.com.

Rentals may be extended until the 28th day of the rental, as long as the following conditions are met:
– The vehicle is free and is not booked out.
– The Renter’s Driver’s license is valid throughout the new rental period.
– The incremental authorization on the payment method on file is successfully processed.
– The vehicle selected has enough remaining days and mileage to fulfill the new rental period.
Any extension past the 28th day of the current rental agreement must be processed as a new rental agreement.  Extensions are not guaranteed as the vehicle may have already been booked.

Driver’s License Requirements

The renter and all authorized drivers must present a valid, unexpired and original driver’s license at the time of the rental. The driver’s license must be legible, in good condition, and valid for the entire rental period. Temporary licenses are only accepted when presented alongside the original expired or voided driver’s license. Digital licenses, photocopies and Learner’s Permits are not accepted. Driver’s licenses that restrict the driver to the use and operation of a vehicle equipped with a form of a breathalyzer apparatus are not accepted.

For Florida only: According to state law, certain, limited out-of-state driver’s licenses with the following indications “DO – Not for Federal Identification” and “Driving Privilege Only – Not Valid for Identification” are not recognized by the State of Florida to drive a vehicle on public roads, and thus, will not be accepted.

Driver’s license printed in a non-Roman alphabet (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc.) must be complemented by an international driver’s license. Additional Requirements

CAR ON THE DRIVE reserves the right to decline a rental where the operation of a specific vehicle requires additional permitting, documentation, or other qualifications in addition to a valid driver’s license. CAR ON THE DRIVE also reserves the right to decline a rental where the renter’s driver’s license restricts the operation of the requested rental vehicle.

The renter is responsible for complying with all licensing and traffic laws and regulations. A commercial driver’s license is not required if the rental will be used for non-commercial use. Vehicles may not be used to transport children in the twelfth (12th) grade or younger for school-related functions except if such individuals are family members of the appropriately licensed authorized driver.

Payment Information

In General

The payment method must be issued under the renter’s name and must be physically presented at pick-up. Cards must be valid for the entire rental period. Cards expire on the last day of the month listed on the expiration date. Cards from online banking institutions are accepted as long as the renter presents the physical card, and all other guidelines are followed. Credit and debit cards are required to have a chip, except for China Union Pay cards. The credit card used must have sufficient available credit at pick-up. Payments with a credit card may require the credit card PIN.

At pick-up, the payment method will be authorized for an amount that includes the rental price, all additional charges and extras, and possibly a security hold dictated by the vehicle driven. These funds will not be available to you during the rental.

For US citizens we may also perform a credit check or require additional qualifications in accordance with local policy to determine whether the renter qualifies for a rental on a higher-end vehicle. The renter must meet the minimum criteria as determined by that location to qualify for a rental. For long-term rentals, the authorization taken is the total amount due for the first 28 days plus $200. The renter must provide a payment method valid for the entire term of the long-term reservation. At the time of the creation for each rental agreement, CAR ON THE DRIVE will process an authorization equal to the rental agreement’s gross total plus the security hold for every rental agreement in the long-term series. If any one of these authorizations fails, the renter will be required to provide a different payment method. If the renter is unreachable after three days of CAR ON THE DRIVE attempting to reach the renter via email and telephone or is unable to provide a valid payment method, the vehicle MUST be returned to CAR ON THE DRIVE within 24 hours of notice or CAR ON THE DRIVE will follow the Overdue process.

To change the payment method on file during an open rental or at vehicle return, please contact CAR ON THE DRIVE. Please note, the refund to the initial payment method may take up to 7 business days.

The customer will accept responsibility in respect of such claims.

All our cars are low milage nearly new cars – typically under 30k miles.  As such we rarely experience any mechanical issues or breakdowns.  Should you experience a breakdown simply call us and we will make any necessary arrangements.  We are backed by a national dealer network for any such occurrences.

Just like any car rental company, for any operator related issues (such as tire damage, flat battery, lost keys, lock out etc) you are responsible.  The most common issue we have encountered is leaving lights on and flattening the battery.  This happens a lot in the parks (especially when parking in VIP as they ask you to put your hazard lights on).  Most parks have on-site help and you can get a free jump start but for avoidable / operator errors, like this, you have to cover the cost of repair/fix. This is standard industry practice.

Authorized Driving Areas

Vehicles rented at CAR ON THE DRIVE must operate withing the boundaries of the State of Florida.

Renters using the rental vehicle in violation of the applicable authorized driving areas will be charged a fee of USD 1.50 for each mile the vehicle has been driven during the rental.

Toll Services

Please be aware that CAR ON THE DRIVE includes free use of a toll pass transponder. Payment for any toll charges incurred is due at the end of your hire period and MUST be in cash. If you remove our transponder and use an automated express/toll lane without a transponder, you will pay a $15 administrative fee per usage day, up to a maximum amount of $180 per rental agreement, plus the applicable toll fee, for each time you use an automated express/toll lane during your rental without a personal transponder (or another method of payment). To avoid toll violations and associated fines, fees, and taxes (and our administrative fees for processing violations and citations), you must pay all tolls with a personal transponder; use only cash lanes and pay cash; plan a route to avoid tolls; or consult local authorities for other payment methods.

Our toll pass offers unlimited use of automated toll lanes but does not cover toll roads that ONLY accept cash. You just pay for what you use – if you don’t use toll roads it is a zero cost to you.

Refueling Options

The Vehicle will typically be picked up with a full tank of fuel/battery charge. If desired, the vehicle will be refueled/recharged according to currently available conditions after returning it to the station.

If you do return the Vehicle with less fuel than when rented, you will pay us for the fuel used at the current price per gallon plus 50%.

Electric vehicle charging

The renter is obliged to return the vehicle with the charge level the same as at time of rental. If the vehicle is returned with a lower charge level than agreed, CAR ON THE DRIVE will charge the renter for recharging the vehicle.
